Tinkerbell (Julia Roberts) Rotoscope Model Wings
Tinkerbell’s (Julia Roberts) Rotoscope Model Wings from Steven Spielberg’s 1991 fantasy film, Hook. In the film, after Captain Hook (Dustin Hoffman) kidnaps Peter Banning's children, Peter (Robin Williams) returns to Neverland to rescue his children, recapture his youth, and challenge his old enemy. This set of Tinkerbell wings were used for both sides of the rotoscope model. To achieve the effect in the film, they filmed a model operating these wings, and later composited those shots with the live action footage. The wings were constructed using two thin sheets of clear resin that hold a sheet of reflective foil in the middle. At the inner end of each wing is a small loop made from thin metal wire that was used to connect them to the mechanism that animated them.
